Our History
Our Founder & Mentor: Dr. Soon Yee Ping

My Think Thank was derived from the efforts and knowledge of the late Dr Soon Yee Ping. Dr. Soon was a mathematician, educational specialist, teacher, and trainer. She held a PhD in Mathematics Education from the USA and was a professor who taught at universities that produced teachers such as the Florida State University and the Indiana University. Additionally, she was also a lecturer at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and was regularly invited by the Ministry of Education for new teachers training.

Apart from her intellect and proficiency as an educator, Dr. Soon was known for her love of children and passion for teaching. She was enthusiastic about teaching children the joys of learning mathematics. This led to her machinations of developing creative approaches to teaching them. Eventually, this habit of hers is what My Think Thank is founded upon.

Dr Soon Yee Ping

Our Humble Beginnings

It all began 18 years ago, when Dr. Soon met a group of her ex-students who brought their preschool children together. This led to Dr. Soon teaching the children mathematics. She incorporated a proactive approach and taught the kids using a non-conventional method. Specifically, she developed many activities to stimulate and arouse the children’s interest in learning mathematics. Eventually, her home became a fun environment to learn in.

This started the idea of developing a comprehensive yet new Mathematics Programme. Along with her ex-students, who shared her passion for teaching and education, Dr. Soon started My Think Thank Pte Ltd. Since then, many children have been exposed to a better way of learning mathematics.

Our Commitment

Here at My Think Thank, we are committed to the quality of education that your child receives. With decades of experience in teaching, our teachers are not just skilled but passionate about educating and changing the lives of children. Every teacher is proficient in and well-versed in the appropriate local syllabus. We also maintain our repertoire by ensuring the highest level of commitment and quality. Every teacher or trainer is specially hand-picked and trained in cooperative-group learning so that they can conduct effective activity-based approaches.

Proper education cannot exist without care and passion, and we incorporate that belief as our ethos. All our teachers love children and support the idea of fostering their intelligence through imaginative learning. Not only do our teachers aim to impart knowledge and produce stellar academic results, but they also want your child to find enjoyment in learning. My Think Thank takes great pride in our ability to educate and elevate the academic understanding of children. To make them understand is one thing, but to make them love and find excitement in the subject is our number one priority. Ergo, we believe in our methods and are committed to them so that your child will be well-attuned to the change in learning we offer.

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

The natural inclination to learn is such a crucial crux in a child’s developmental stage. Hence, we believe in fleshing out that interest. But that does not work in your typical everyday classroom. That is why we start by providing your child with a stimulating and nurturing classroom environment. As per the phrase "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", we firmly believe in the aspect of play when it comes to education. Through properly guided and well-designed activities, we can facilitate children’s interest in learning and their educational development.

Exciting and Stimulating Environment

What exactly does stimulating environment mean in the context of a child’s education? Simply put, it is a space where a child’s mind can run free while trying to understand what has been presented to them, without the constraints of a typical classroom. A child would be able to remain active, move around, learn new ways of receiving knowledge, and be more inclined to question everything around them. Therefore, a child would be more interested in the learning process, allowing for better understanding and information retention.

A Well-Rounded Experience

An early start to getting their minds to think further is a positive thing in a child’s life. We do not just teach them how to love mathematics and Chinese. My Think Thank teaches them to think outside the box with well-knit strategies that synchronize well with each other. In a classroom where a child’s energy is properly directed by hands-on activities, there is so much room for additional beneficial elements. Since each child is different, we work on their strengths accordingly, be it with more play or more guidance. This allows us to maximise the potential of children as we build their versatility. From simple texts or equations to problems or statements that require critical thinking, students would be able to put all the pieces together with our guidance and their own steadily improving minds. By slowly learning how to comprehend the presented problem, connect the dots, and understand contextual changes, students would be able to discern things with more ease. By proxy, this will develop as they age, making them competent and resilient adults.

My Think Tank Success Stories

We were highly recommended by our friend who put her child in My Think Tank for mathematics. Our children, Nicholas & Natasha love the lessons very much because it’s very practical & hands-on. Teacher Rachel is very patient & loves teaching the kids and they look forward to attending her lessons. As they are well prepared for the syllabus ahead of their Primary school mathematics, they are very confident in their current school work and look forward to school without fear. As a parent, I am happy that they know the concept pretty well and have no stress about them not coping well with mathematics. We are grateful to have teacher Rachel coaching them since N2.

Chin Suen joined My Think Tank when she was in Primary 4. Teacher Nancy taught her for 3 years till Primary 6. Teacher Nancy was a dedicated and hardworking teacher. Though it was a group class, through the sessions and activities, Teacher Nancy was able to identify Chin Suen’s obstacles in Maths and adapted her teaching and classroom activities to Chin Suen’s learning style. Chin Suen really enjoyed the Maths sessions with Teacher Nancy, who was friendly and always ready with encouraging words. Teacher Nancy is indeed an educator with a  heart. Thank you My Think Tank and Teacher Nancy for helping my girl in her Maths learning journey.

Mum of P6 (2019) Peck Chin Suen

I have been in My Think Tank since 2012 when I was in Primary 2. Going through the Maths programme since Primary school has helped me to build a strong foundation in Maths. The skills I have learnt has been very useful for me till now. Personally, I believe the teachers are not only concerned about helping me get good grades, they are also concerned with my overall well-being. Being not a very fast learner, going for lessons at My Think Tank has helped me learn skills which enable me to be ahead of my peers at times. This gives me confidence when I have to attempt to do questions.

Josh Chen, Student (2012 – 2020, Sec 4)

I’ve been at My Think Tank since 2008. My Think Tank helped me set the foundation for ‘math and trained me in exam-taking skills and techniques. The teachers are very kind and have a lot of resources available to expose students like me to a wide variety of questions. I also get to learn topics ahead of the school schedule which helps me feel more confident going into class!

Nicole Chao, Student (2008 K1 – 2020 JC1)

I joined MTT in 2009 and graduated from MTT in 2016. Across these years I have matured and grown a lot under the care and supervision of the teachers there. I started out with a shaky foundation in mathematics but under the patience and encouragement of the learning culture at MTT, I was able to gain the much needed confidence to do well in mathematics. One fond memory I had at the centre was even when my math results were inconsistent, the teachers never gave up hope and continued to review my mistakes with me and helped me grow from them.

John Kay, Student (2009 – 2016)

I would like to thank all the teachers in MTT for their valuable guidance and dedication for the past 10 years. My oldest child first attended her Maths Enrichment at the age of 6(2009) in MTT. Since then, her two younger siblings (2012, 2020) have also follow suit & now, all 3 have benefited greatly in laying a strong foundation in their love for Maths. My two elder kids have graduated from Primary 6 with a A* each for Maths in PSLE.

Keep up the great work!
